Is Bread Making You Depressed? September 21, 2009

dog-friesThere is nothing better than fresh bread, hot out of the oven with fresh melted butter …mmmmm…or a homemade chocolate chip cookie, warm and gooey…yummmmmy! Unfortunately for some of us it’s the worst thing we can eat.

I can’t tell you how much I love cookies, it’s a passion really, a love affair and I make the best cookies around…but I had to give them up.  After a visit to a naturapathic doctor I was put on a Candida diet…Candida is an overgrowth of yeast in the body and it feeds off of sugar, yeast and other starchy foods. Once I gave up the cookies and the breads, pastas, rice, potato chips and other sugary, starchy foods I felt a million times better. The fog lifted and I stopped feeling the severe lows and I feel happier in my head.

If you feel tired, depressed, moody, have bad PMS, muscle and joint pain, get frequent diarrhea and or constipation, are overweight, get bad sleep or generally just don’t feel well – try going off of gluten, rice, potatoes, fruit, sugar and eat only veggies and protein for 2 weeks and see if your symptoms improve. If they do, stick with it and know that it’s only hard at first and then it gets easier. There are a lot of options and if you get creative, plenty of delicious foods to choose from.

You know it isn’t necessarily true about the sugar causing candida. Its the fat. You can eat all the bananas, pasta, rice and potatos you want as long as you eat no oil, dairy, or meat. Because when you eat a high fat diet (more than 10 percents of your daily calories coming from fat) the sugar you eat gets trapped in your blood, causes a spike in insulin and contributes to candida. When you eat a high carb low fat diet. 80/10/10 (search up this on google), the sugar doesn’t get trapped In your blood and your good to go and candida is cleared up in a matter of days. Plus you have more energy due to a higher carb intake.
